Do you realize how expensive wreaths are? Goodness! Even at Target they were upwards of $35 bucks each (and we of course wanted two wreaths... $70? I don't think so.) We found the above wreaths at Home Depot for $10 each. Yay!
We were going to do Christmas lights this year, but our house only has one outdoor outlet, and it is way in the back. It just was proving to be way too much of a hassle. I don't care for hassles and I don't care for the wasted electricity, so no lights for us.
On Wednesday I decided to work from home. When I turned on the ol' laptop I realized that my wireless internet was mysteriously nowhere to be found. When I peered out the window, I saw numerous Power & Electric trucks and the street light out in front of our house had been stripped of its top. (In fact, it is a large--and ugly--telephone pole with a cobra light on top.)
Aha! I declared. They were at long last going to install our new historic-style lamp posts! Over the summer (or maybe even spring?) our block voted on whether or not we should install these lamps. I, for one, am a big fan, especially compared to the ugly phone pole type. Give me some charm! Give me a wistful glimpse into the Longmont of old! Fortunately, the vote passed.

I couldn't resist. Here are the city utility people checking out the buffalo. Everyone loves the buffalo!
In record time, the lamps were erected! This picture would be a lot nicer if there weren't the mailbox, children Xing sign, and the safety cone (marking where the phone pole was removed.) Such is urban life, I suppose. But still, I am pleased. The block is much more charming with these lamp posts lighting the way.
Those are my favorite kind of lamp posts! I think they put out much better light than the phone pole ones!

6:00 PMThose lights look very nice! I have one of the telephone pole models across the street from me. On one hand I'm happy to have the light, on the other...it is so ugly.

12:06 PMThe new light posts are a very nice touch. The pole ones are ugly!

7:06 AMMan I wish our neighborhood would get old style lamps installed.. I've heard talk about it, but so far nothing. Some of the other old neighborhoods got them (including streetscape improvements) and it just completely notched up the cool factor of those neighborhoods. Hope ours isn't too far behind. Looks great!
