A little background: the reason we even looked at this town is because I had this crazy idea that I needed to live in an old house. You know, character and the like. I've always lived in old houses... Tyler was raised in a fairly old house. We do not like new housing. Sorry, but that cookie cutter crap with vaulted ceilings... no thanks. We had been living in Boulder. Rent is dirt cheap. Buying a house, on the other hand, is highway robbery. So my eyes start wandering to Longmont, Colorado where the housing is significantly cheaper and they have a plethora of older homes and a nice downtown with potential. We can walk to several coffee shops, the library, the post office, restaurants. Yeah. We dig it.
Longmont can also get a bad rap. It has a lot of pawn shops (Grandpa's Pawn & Gun, for example) and you can miss the big ol' smelly turkey plant as you enter town. Thanks, Butterball. We owe you for that. So there's some of the good and the bad, but I'm all about the emphasis on the good.
On that note, one of the reasons that I have Love for Longmont is: The Cheese Importers Warehouse! Yes, everyone who knows me knows this already.

It is tucked away in what you might call "the warehouse district" of Longmont... A very uninteresting exterior... Inside there is a lovely little European Marketplace, as they call it. Gifts, sandwiches, soups, coffee. And then get this: walk on through the glass doors and it is a huge refrigerated warehouse filled with CHEESE! Heaven.
It is organized by region, with sections for organic and local as well. There are often samples. Mmmm! Yeah, it rocks. We go there almost every weekend.
And on that note, it is time for my 30 minute commute on home... to Longmont.
More like "Wrongmont" amirite?
Just kidding! What a town! Catch the Spirit! CATCH IT.

1:06 PMSounds like a cool little town. :) This got me to thinking about doing a "why I love .." type post of my own. Thanks for the inspiration.

11:29 AMokay, this is going to be a long comment...
So I'm on a blog I read regularly (Making it Lovely) and she is talking about redoing her wood floors. She mentions that another blogger (Four Beds Two Baths) is redoing HER floors, so I go over and read the post. As I'm reading the comments, I see that one of the commenters is named Dulcie and I think "oh, Dulcie, I love that name. I wonder where my old friend Dulcie from Vassar ended up?" And then I click on the name of the blogger to see the profile, and it is YOU. Nuts. The internet is a wacky place.
Email me sometime if you ever want to say hello. mckaylarson at hotmail dot com. CRAZY!

3:40 PMGood to see you focusing on the good. I recently moved from a very nice cookie cutter home on a golf course, to a not very nice old farm house in a farming community of 375 people. I feel the same as you do. We love where we live now so much more than where we came from. Few people understand that. Cheers.

7:10 AMJerome - that is great! I can't imagine living in a 375 pop town, but I can imagine the sense of community that everyone would have. I'll be checking out your blog... :)
